Home Again – July’s Blu-Ray Releases

Welcome to Home Again, where each and every Tuesday I’ll be running down some of the best genre releases coming to home media.

All info is from the excellent Blu-ray.com. This isn’t every genre release, just the ones I find interesting. For the full list, follow that link.

Quatermass and the Pit (1967) – Shout Factory–  This right here is some legendary science fiction, but also quality Hammer Horror. While this isn’t the original version – which I, shamefully, still haven’t seen – this is the bigger-budgeted remake that was released in theaters.

Is the mysterious thing in the pit inhabited by aliens, Nazis, or could it be… SATAN?!?

Quatermass II (1957) – Shout Factory – As you can see from the date, this predates the prior entry. It stars a different actor as the titular Professor Quatermass and is about colonizing Earth’s moon, which people thought was going to be a thing back in the 50s.

Hellmaster (1992) – Vinegar Syndrome – John Saxon – starring as “Professor Saxon” – performs evil experiments on unsuspecting college students in order to turn them into zombie slaves so he can take over the world. F

Humanoids from the Deep 4K Steelbook – Has there ever been a movie that you were positive you had seen, but then watched and realized you had never seen it before?

This was Humanoids from the Deep for me. A couple of years ago I was in the mood for an undersea monster movie (I love undersea monster movies) and has watched Leviathan and Deep Star Six recently enough to want something different. Since The Abyss and Sphere are both boring piles of ass, I decided it was time to revisit Humanoids from the Deep. I knew that title and that cover like the back of my hand and was absolutely positive I had rented it from Blockbuster, likely multiple times.

I was blown away to realize that I had never seen this movie and that it was awesome. I watched it on one of the streaming services, so I don’t currently own it. I plan to grab this fancy Steelbook because I definitely need this movie in my collection.

Play Dead (1983) – Vinegar Syndrome – A crazy old lady uses occult powers to train her Rottweiler to murder the rest of her family.

Rottweilers need to get a new PR agent.

Long Shot (2019) – Lionsgate Films – This movie looked stupid and relatively unbelievable, but I love Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, so I want to see it. It’s the one where he’s a loveable schlub (SHOCKER) and she’s running for president and they fall in love.

The Reptile (1966) – Shout Factory – I guess it’s finally time to admit this – I have never seen the Hammer Horror classic The Reptile because the pictures of the reptile lady freak me out too much. Like, even more than Dirk Benedict in Sssssss. I can’t handle it.

Other Titles Worth Noting

Lust for A Vampire, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, Too Scared to Scream, A Streetcar Named Desire, Pure Country, Domino (2019), The Intruder, Deadly Class: Season One, Jefferson in Paris, UglyDolls
