Home Again – April’s Blu-Ray Releases

Welcome to Home Again, where each and every Tuesday I’ll be running down some of the best genre releases coming to home media.

All info is from the excellent Blu-ray.com. This isn’t every genre release, just the ones I find interesting. For the full list, follow that link.

4/23

ALIEN 40th Anniversary 4K (1979) – 20th Century Fox  – I don’t usually mention 4K, but I’ve already read that this is a fantastic upgrade of one of the greatest horror films of all time. I recently had to re-purchase the Blu-ray quadrilogy because some jackass borrowed it and never gave it back (you know who you are, but I don’t because I can’t remember), but I’m still going to grab this edition.

I’ll get the Best Buy exclusive Steelbook if I can.

Various Marvel Releases (2008-2018) – Disney/Buena Vista – Many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are getting some sort of reissue today. There are 4K releases, Steelbooks – we already have our Age of Ultron Steelbook for some reason – and probably more. Blu-ray.com does not have everything listed, so visit your local store or website.

Escape Room (2019) – Sony Pictures – I was interested in this movie when it hit theaters, but never got to see it. I haven’t heard anything about it, so I’m still curious. Not “gonna buy it” curious, more like “gonna Google it and then rent it if I don’t see anything too bad about it” curious. A horror movie about the escape room fad seems like a no brainer, but there could very easily have been no brains involved.

Scared Stiff (1987) – Arrow – This looks so familiar. I’m fairly positive I saw this on cable or TBS or whatever back in the day. Check it out:

Strange visions come to haunt a singer when she and her boyfriend-psychiatrist move into the old house that is haunted by the ghost of a slave owner.

It’s all fairly innocuous until you get to those last two words, which take everything up another unpleasant level. But this sounds like some standard 80s horror and I want to check it out. Or revisit it, as the case may be.

Scream and Scream Again (1970) – Kino Lorber – It’s not great, but it stars Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing and that’s nothing to sneeze at. The movie is pretty limp, but just seeing those three in the same feature doing their thing is worth the price of admission.

I Spit on Your Grave: Déjà vu (2019) – Déjà vu LLC – Continuing the grand modern horror tradition of sequels that ignore previous sequels, the star and director of the original 1978 I Spit on Your Grave return with this unlikely continuation of Jennifer Hill’s story.

This movie has been finished since 2015 without release, so it’s anybody’s guess as to whether or not it will actually come out today. I don’t think rape/revenge flicks are in high demand right now, so perhaps this one is best left unreleased.

Other Titles Worth Noting

The VVitch 4K, Destroyer, Supercock

Man, I guess everyone saw those MCU films coming out and decided to bail on this week.
